Disable Windows Autorun For All CD/DVD/ROM Drives

Question:

Disable Windows Autorun for all CD/DVD/ROM Drives

Answer:

The Windows Autorun is always enabled for a drive until you disable it. When you insert an Audio CD or Karaoke CDG disc, Windows will try to “do something” with it for you. When using Microstudio or Hoster, this will cause long delays.

Also, add on Sound Cards install proprietary software that pop up and attempt to play CDs inserted in a drive unless Autorun is disabled.

Autorun causes extra delays for the drive to spin-up, to load unwanted software, and to allow advertisements embedded on some CDG discs to appear. Can you imagine running Hoster and adding a track to play from a Singer’s disc they hand you and an advertisement pops up in the middle of your show? You want to DISABLE Autorun!

Follow these steps to disable Autorun on a CD/DVD drive (this is from the Hoster Manual “Troubleshooting Guide”, “Reducing Audio Drops While Playing” topic):

  1. Click the Start button
  2. Click the Run command
  3. Type in regedit and press the Enter key
  4. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and click the + at its left to open its contents up
  5. Scroll down to System and click the + to its left
  6. Locate CurrentControlSet and click the + to its left
  7. Locate Services and click the + to its left
  8. Locate Cdrom and click it directly to see its contents on the right screen. If you have more than one CD/DVD/ROM drive, I suggest you disable Autorun for each drive.
  9. Locate Autorun and move your mouse to it, then click and release your RIGHT mouse button. In the menu that appears, move your mouse to Modify and click your mouse LEFT button to see an edit dialog box. Enter zero (0 must replace the default 1) and click the OK button. This disables Autorun for this drive.
  10. Click the X icon at the top right of this RegEdit screen to close it.

Audio Is Out Of Sync With Graphics Or Repeats The Same Audio

Question:

Audio is out of sync with graphics or repeats the same audio.

Answer:

NOTE: Microsoft Removed this ability from Windows Vista.  If you are having Sync issues with Vista, then you Must get the latest drivers for your Audio and Video cards.  This is the only way to fix this under Vista.

This is how to slow down the Hardware acceleration of your sound card.  This can fix problems with the graphics being out of sync or not playing back correctly with the audio.

1) Click the START menu

2) Left click  RUN.

3) Type in DXDIAG, and click OK.

4) At the top, click the tab marKed SOUND (may also be Sound 1 or Sound 2).

5) There’s a slider marked Hardware Acceleration.

6) Click on the pointer and move it to the left until it shows Basic Acceleration.

7) Exit the program.

8) Now try your software again.  The audio and graphics should now be in sync.

You can also try setting the Colors in the Display settings to 16 bit color, there used to be a problem with some video cards that made this occur. You can get to this by going to Control Panel\Display properties. Then click on the settings tab and change the colors to 16 bit.

My New Drive Does Not Show Up In Your Software

Question:

My new drive does not show up in your software

Answer:

1. Make sure you have the latest Microstudio version by running it, and click the Help menu About (MTU PROGRAM NAME) to see what version you are running. If you don’t have the latest version, read these instructions. If your download link is older than 12 months or the latest version is not available from your download link, purchase the upgrade.

2. Update all drivers for your motherboard to the latest versions for USB, IDE and Chipset drivers. These are available from the web site for your Motherboard manufacturer, or computer company.

3. If the drives still do not appear, something is in your computer is not allowing MTU to access your drive. You need to:

B. Reformat the computer hard drive (which will erase/delete/remove everything on the hard drive)
C. Reinstall Windows
D. Reinstall Microstudio and other MTU programs
E. Reinstall any other programs

What Is The Difference Between Software And Hardware Decoding For CD+G?

Question:

What is the difference between Software and Hardware decoding for CD+G?

Answer:

Hardware decoding means that the drive itself has a chip inside of it that can error correct the CD+G data.  In 2006, only Plextor drives have hardware decode, and not all of their drives have it. This list have hardware decoding: http://www.mtu.com/kb/index.php?action=kb&article=16

This lIst of Plextor drives do NOT have Hardware decoding: http://www.mtu.com/kb/index.php?action=kb&article=12

Software Decoding means that the drive sends the data from the CD to our program in Raw format.  The software then must decode (error correct) the CD+G graphics and audio.  All optical drives can provide audio, but not all can provide the graphics. Also if the drive does work to give you the graphics you might get alot of broken or splotchy graphics due to the error correction.  Software error correction only fixes some errors that are fixed by Hardware decoding. Thus, Plextor drives that have Hardware decoding always give the best imported tracks with fewer graphic errors.

CD/DVD Drive Locks Up When Reading Files Into The Computer Or Writing A New Blank CD.

Question:

CD/DVD drive locks up when reading files into the computer or writing a new blank CD.

Answer:

If you are having problems reading discs into the computer or writing discs, update your firmware on your CD/DVD drive fixes most problems.

One of our customers reported the following Problem and this was the fix.

Using the Plextor DVDR PX-716A for duplicating, the image file is read in, but while writing, the progress bar reaches 80% and the new disc is ejected with the message “Duplicating CD Failed.” I upgraded the Plextor firmware from 1.09 to 1.10 and it now duplicates a CD just fine.

Here is the list of drives from Plextor’s website as of 10/05/06.  If your drive is not listed then you can get the updated firmware from:

http://www.plextor.com/english/support/support_downloads.html#firm

Select your drive from the list. Save the file to your computer and then Run it to install it into the drive.

When Importing A Song In Microstudio Or Hoster I Get No Sound Or Graphics

Question:

I downloaded the newest version of Microstudio (or Hoster) and imported a song.  I tried to play the song and all i got was a black screen with no audio.

Answer:

This can occur under Hoster 3.310 and later and Microstudio 3.000 and later only as they are using the newer MMC commands to support using other drives for CD+G.  The only fix to this is to replace your drive.  It means your drive does not support the formats we are using, you will have to replace your drive with one that will work.
